100 WC – Fake monster

The trap looked perfect. The legs and boots stuck up in the water like a real person. I stay still, lurking in water, like an aligator. Leaves crunch, my cue to peek up out of the water. A little boy comes up and screams, laying eyes on the trap. I grin, my mouth emerged in murky water. He runs up to the trap and looks down. Instantly I pop out and pull him into the water with me. The shriek seems loud enough to make me deaf, but I ignore it as I pull him back up, now soaked with water, laughing.

“James!” He whines.

100 WC – Tattered Yellow Parchment

I hold it close to my chest, hugging the tattere yellow parchment like a teddy bear belonging to a three year old. Just holding it brings me into it’s exsisting world of magic. Magic that feels so mystical it feels fake when it’s not.  I bring it back up to my face, examining it closely for the hundreth time like I’ve never seem anything like it before. I feel slightly cheesy, as if I’m in a book staring at a simple object that gives me so many memories and hopes for the future.

Goals for term 4, 2017.

Goals for term 4:

Work and study goals:

  • I would like to become better at using maps and timetables and to learn how to efficiently use angles and understand them better in general.
  • I aim to put a lot of effort into math and become better by paying attention in class and putting more effort in than I usually would.

List of examples of things I could do to show I am trying to meet my goal:

  • I can practice using public transport, to get a better understanding of how maps and timetables fit into the real world. I can also look up things I need clarification on and ask questions.
  • I can work hard and ask questions when I need to with all the things I aim to get better at.
  • To be motivated to work hard, I can focus on the topics I’m not confident with to motivate myself and improve my knowledge.

Fun and friendship:

  • I would like to give compliments to my friends and others as well.
  • I would like to focus on fixing my rude habits such as harsh tone of voice and rolling my eyes.

List of examples of things I could do to show I am trying to meet my goal:

  • Focus on saying the nice things that I think. This way I won’t just think the nice things.
  • Make sure I keep in mind everyone’s feelings and not just what I feel.

Next year I would like to get better at:

  • Making more friends. I would like to have close friends but lots of people I am friends with/friendly with.

BTN – Electricity

The video we watched.

Facts

Understanding

Questions

About 300 years ago, Stephen Gray an astronomer, held an experiment to do with electricity. He made a very important discovery. He placed a boy on 2 swings, held by a wooden frame with silk rope. He had a Hauksbee machine that generated static electricity. He generated the electricity which charged through the boy, using a connecting rod. The boy had a plate of gold leaf in front of him, and when the electricity was generated the gold leaves rose to his fingers. That’s when Stephen Gray made the discovery that electricity passes through some things and some things hold the electricity inside them. These are called insulators and conductors. Insulators hold the electricity or electric chage and the conductors let it flow within them. The silk ropes were insulators whereas the boy was a conductor. This knowledge is still used today with electricity towers. Certain things need the electricity to flow through them and some things need to stop it.

I understand that this was a very important discovery in history and that we may not have very important things like electricity lines and towers if it was never made. I wonder how this would actually effect our lives? I know that we might not have electricity but what other things could this seriously effect? Also, how would it feel to have electricity charged through you so that you could do what the boy did?

100 WC – Artist

“So what lies ahead of you?” My Mother asked me crossing her arms. “What will your future be like? She didn’t give me a minute to think before she opened her mouth again. I noticed bright red lipstick smeared on her teeth. “You’d be an amazing lawyer, Peach.”

“Well I want to be an artist,” I snapped. “You can’t change that.” We had this conversation almost everyday I mentioned going to Art School. I got sick of it so long ago that arguing doesn’t seem worth it. I will never change her mind, and she will never change mine.

BTN – Zombie Apocalypse

Facts.

Understandings.

Questions.

This BTN was about a school that turned the subject Science into a zombie apocalypse game for their students.

The aim was to find a kidnapped scientist who might have the cure to a zombie virus outbreak. Teachers set up loads of stuff for their students to use as evidence such as liquids, hands, fingers, bite marks, etc. Not only was it a fun science activity but it forced the students to work together to find clues and do experiments. It also had certain aspects of science hidden inside of it.

One thing I thought that was it’s a good idea to disguise science into something fun, but something too fun or extreme could confuse kids about what their really doing and learning.

Two questions were, how long did it take the teachers to set up the subject? Also, what did the students end up doing the best on with science?

100 WC – Down the Rabbit Hole

Luke placed a foot over the wet grass, trying to walk through the woods to his Aunt’s house. Suddenly, the dirt gave in, sending him spiraling down a deep dark hole. He screamed but the sound only echoed through the hole. After a few seconds of screaming and panicking he gave up. The hole seemed to be never ending. He looked up, still falling, and noticed that the top of the hole was covered. Luke looked down, still falling, when he relised that his fall may never end.

“Help!” He called, but there was of course, no answer.

100 WC – The next act.

As the crowd’s eyes stared at us I took a deep breath ready to introduce the act me and my sister were going to do. I looked down at her and she smiled. I opened my mouth to speak when it suddenly whent dark.

Everyone was silent for a few seconds until a ear piercing scream rippled in the air. I could tell it was in the crowd but it felt right in my ear. The lights flashed back and I looked down at my sister. She was fine but someone in the crowd was lying down surrounded by a puddle of red.

100 WC – Witch

Every year that tall lady in the cloak and  pointu hat with bags under her eyes visited the seal on his rock. She strolled over clutching her wand tightly.

“Hello Seal,” She said in her usual raspy voice. “Have you been behaving?”

The seal started to laugh. He laughed so much, he flopped over on his back on the grey rock and started to roll over.

“Witch?” He asked now so serious it looked as though it never happened.”You turned me into a seal? How much worse can it get?

100 WC – Cushion, Scarlet, Annoying, Watered, Violin

Riley sat down on one of Mrs Smith’s strange patterned scarlet cushions. The girl looked around. A violin case near the front door. A purple potted plant sat on the table seperating them. Suddenly Mrs Smith’s annoying voice boomed so loud it felt as if it was right in Riley’s ear.

“Thanks for stopping by to drop of these cookies Riley.”

Riley faked a smile and quickly looked out the window to see if Riley’s Father was coming to pick her up. Instead she saw him across the road watering his garden.

Riley couldn’t take it anymore.

“Can I go?”
